PLAY: Make sure to park your car streetside (between the 1300 and 1500 block) because you will be walking to all these locations. Start with a sunset drink at Enoteca Del Fornaio, the bar on the expansive and exquisite patio on the top of The Del Mar Plaza. Next, walk right across the street to the newly remodeled L'Auberge Hotel. Here, you have many options. You can grab a drink at the pool bar, enjoy an entree on the Waterfall Terrace (a wallet friendly-er option), or enjoy a fabulous feast at the new Kitchen 1540. After dinner, head south down Camino Del Mar a block and a half to En Fuego and enjoy their downstairs, outdoor bar. (Go on a Sunday night for live music.)
Thoughtful Detail: Reserve a room at L'Auberge if you are REALLY looking for romance (and maybe a massage for the next morning!) Also check out our spa daycation concept for L'Auberge here. BLOG: If you have never been to The Del Mar Plaza then I am just going to assume you have never been to Del Mar. Really, it's the little beacon of light from which every Del Mar journey should begin. There are several great restaurants that call this place home, but, since I am recommended dinner at L'Auberge, I would suggest at least getting a drink from Enoteca Del Fornaio. It's a flirtatous little bar with a seductive view of the pacific. The newly remodeled L'Auberge is so refreshing- it's as if the ocean breeze sweeps right through the main lobby keeping everything crisp and clean. This hotel is a must see... it's gorgeous. There are many options for dining as well. Down near the pool there is a cool outdoor bar where you can mingle with guests or cozy up to a firepit. Up the stairs on the Waterfall Terrace they have mouthwatering martinis and interesting entrees... with a view! Inside you can step up your game and dine at Kitchen 1540. I need to step up my game- My husband and I have never eaten there, so let us know what you think! Also- if you go with a group ask about reserving a cabana for dinner. Now that is leisure at it's best! Once you've cooled off from all the ocean breezes... it's time to heat things up: The English translation of "En Fuego" is "crazy Del Mar party!" Or maybe it means "on fire." And this place is on fire because it consistently has a spicy scene. It feels like a treehouse because its open-air wooden staircase leads down to a great outdoor patio. En Fuego is a must for night life in Del Mar during those mild So Cal evenings.
