1. Top of the Hyatt on the 40th floor of the Manchester Grand Hyatt. 2. Float on the 4th floor of the Hard Rock Hotel. 3. Altitude Sky Bar on the 22nd floor of the Marriott near Petco Park. 4. JBar (LOUNGEsix) on the 4th floor of Hotel Solomar. 5. Eden Rooftop Bar & Lounge on the 7th and top floor of the Ivy Hotel. 6. Siren on the 4th floor of the Se San Diego Hotel, the newest rooftop bar of the group. FULL CONCEPT: (Do this date during the day or earlier in the evening to ensure that you can get into these locations.) Hoist your cruisers into the back of your Jeep and park downtown, OR rent bikes from Wheel Fun Rentals at the Holiday Inn across from the Maritime Museum. Ride your bikes across the street to the bay and follow the water south the Manchester Grand Hyatt. (They will valet your bikes upon request.) Head up to the Top of the Hyatt on the 40th floor and enjoy a cocktail with the best view in San Diego. Next, Head down W. Harbor Drive towards 5th Ave. Take a Left. Look for the Hard Rock Hotel and head upstairs to Float, a rooftop bar on the 4th floor. After a cocktail or two, its time to take a right on K street and bike towards Petco Park in order to get to the Marriott. Head up to Altitude Sky Bar on the 22nd floor and enjoy a cocktail and a view of both the bay and the ballpark. Now you are ready to grab your cruisers and travel only 1 block on 6th Avenue to JBar (LOUNGEsix). On the 4th floor you will find a pool side bar with a breezy atmosphere. (Feel free to grab food at any one of these locations.) Once your done at JBar keep heading north on 6th to F street. You will end up at the Eden Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the Ivy Hotel on the 7th and top floor. Lastly, cross over to 5th Avenue and head up north just past broadway to make your way towards the Se San Diego Hotel. On the 4th floor you will find the newest of rooftop/pool lounges, Siren. Make sure to try their edible alchoholic treats! To return your bikes, just ride towards the water on Broadway. When you’ve reached the bay, turn right on N. Harbor Drive. BLOG: There is nothing more fun than exploring the Gaslamp's hot hotel hideaways by beach cruiser. These locals-friendly lounges inspire sabbaticals in the sun! Not only do you get extra Vitamin D, you don’t have to deal with stressful parking fees... Your doctor would be proud! Thoughtful Detail: Create and print out a personalized itinerary that allows you and your guest(s) to rate each hotel and to note your favorite moments from each destination. Then compare them at the end… It provides an overview of the date and a record of how much fun you had! Wheel Fun Rentals is my recommendation for bike rentals because it is so conveniently located near the bay for scenic views as you ride, and they are flexible with pricing and returns. In the past, they have even been kind enough to put air in our own beach cruisers for free! Holy View! You are virtually in the clouds when you visit the Top of the Hyatt. This lounge is sophisticated and classy, but not arrogant. As far as attire, the Top of the Hyatt is flexible… It takes on the flavor of whatever you are mixing it with! (Classy date- cocktail dress; bike tour- slacks and sandals.) It is simply beautiful and romantic. And… if you are really nice to the valet guys, they might store your bike in the bike closet for safe keeping! Float: This place is like Jekyll and Hyde… but I mean that in the best sense. If you go during the day or early in the evening then it’s easy to get in and it’s a relaxed, conversation-friendly environment. However, if you get their too late you better know somebody and appreciate a scene. In fact, it’s the place to be “scene.” Or to look at the ridiculously beautiful servers in their bikini tops. Location, location, location! Altitude Sky Bar has a view that drops straight into Petco Park. This place is all about atmosphere! Even if you end up at Altitude when Red Sox Nation is in town (as I have-my relatives are Red Sox fans)… it doesn’t matter! No matter the patrons- this bar will always give you that warm and fuzzy “I’m in Sunny San Diego!” feeling in your heart. However, if it’s game day, get there early. JBar (I mean “LOUNGESix”): Another great rooftop bar because of it’s chill atmosphere and great location for this bike bar crawl. It is a good rooftop bar for those who are afraid of heights (only 4 floors up). While the Top of the Hyatt gives you a great bay view, and Altitude gives you a great game day view, Eden Rooftop Bar and Lounge at the Ivy Hotel gently places you in the middle of the Gaslamp and surrounds you with scenic downtown. Much like Float, Eden Rooftop Bar and Lounge can be difficult to get into if you go too late at night, but, if you get the timing right, you will truly feel like you’ve taken a leave of absence from life. Siren at the Se San Diego Hotel is the newest rooftop bar downtown, but it’s smaller and more exotic. When you stop by this tropical paradise make sure to try one (or more) of their unique selection of edible cocktails! They are molecular miracles!
