DATE: Find Parking on the back streets of Little Italy or in an all day lot. Grab lunch at the recently opened Burger Lounge on India Street... their (veg, turkey and beef) burgers are an inexpensive, and a nice casual alternative to the normal Little Italy fare. Finish your meal in time for your reservations at GoCar Tours. It's only 5 blocks away. Enjoy a tour of the Gaslamp, Balboa Park, Old Town, Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Point Loma, etc... whatever your liking! After you drop the car back off at it's home base, walk across Hawthorn Street and enjoy a beverage at one of the oldest (and rowdiest) bars in San Diego... Waterfont Bar & Grill.
BLOG: Entertaining visitors from out of town... OR... wanna play "STAYCATION???" A great way to spend time in the sun in San Diego is to rent a "story-telling" mini go-car with a GPS voice system that gives you a personalized tour of Downtown, Hillcrest, Balboa Park, Point Loma, etc. These little cars get a lot of attention- like bees playing in a hive of honey!! They call it "The cure for the common tour." I've never done the complete tour before, but I remember one time I was hanging out next to Waterfront when one of these cute little cars came zipping up. A voice came from the car and told a story about the history of the very bar I was patroning! Hmm... Very Interesting and entertaining! Little Italy's newest better-than-fast-food addition is Burger Lounge. There are Burger Lounges popping up all over San Diego and for good reason: They have amazing grass-fed beef, organic ingredients, microbrews, and premium wine... all without having to tip a server! They won SD Magazine's 2009 Best Local Hamburger Joint. However, I would say it has more of an urban "lounge" vibe than a neighborhood "joint" feel. The GoCar Tours provide small yellow cars that can seat two people and can be driven down the San Diego streets. However, they top out at about 30 mph. The car itself provides GPS and a self-guided tour. You have to wear a helmet and be comfortable with getting attention from people pointing at you and wondering why you get to have so much fun. These tours are a great way to get out and enjoy the San Diego sun! Tours start at around $49, but expect to pay more than that as the hours of play add up. (Ask about local discounts!) The Waterfront Bar & Grill is one of the oldest bars downtown (so much so that it used to be on the waterfront- hence the name), but it has one of the best (and rowdiest) scenes in town. You'll find quite the crowd- young professionals mingling with local yokels. This bar is a real landmark and it's definitely a "must include" as part of your guided GoCar tour!
